Library renovation

The journey started at a 2016 meeting of the college’s Learning Resources Committee, which I chair as Library Director, A student representative casually commented that our looked “dated”. Not we actually WERE dated, have electronic resources, 24/7 remote access, printers, scanners, wireless, and state-of-the-art Management System. However, through eyes young student, “like something from 1970s.” Anyone who has lived decade’s will know was not meant compliment. student’s criticism prompted Dean Academic Affairs, sat in on meeting, to ask when had its last “facelift.” That an easy one answer - far knew…never. And I’ve been here over 20 years.
 Just like that, renovation born. How hard could this be? would query students what suitable update might look like, get budget, buy some new furniture, go back business being librarian rather than interior designer. Spoiler alert: so fast.
